I’m a director!
No not film director, though how cool would that be right?
My little business is growing! I’m no longer a sole trader, but the director of a new registered company Emma Berry Learning Design Ltd!
Now, for some this won’t be huge news or a big milestone. Most people can register a business with Companies House and some people decide to do this instead of becoming a sole trader in the first place.
However, when I was setting up as a freelancer I felt it was best to go down the sole trader route. Why? Simply because 1. I didn’t know how this whole freelance thing was going to go and 2. the admin involved in a limited company scared me!
It has been almost two years since I exited the world of permanent work and I feel so privileged that I have continued to grow as a self-employed person. It is because of this I finally decided to get an accountant and due to this growth we felt it was best for me to now make the switch to a limited company.
When we had this conversation I left feeling overwhelmed, not in a bad way, but in a ‘wow I am so grateful’ kind of way. I feel so incredibly thankful to all my clients and fellow instructional designers who continue to choose me for their digital learning development and who engage with, and support my posts across social media. Without this, there is absolutely no way I would be where I am today.
So really the point of this post, aside from being a business update, is to say a huge thank you! Thank you for enabling me to continue doing a job I love and in return I’ll keep pushing the boundaries of learning design, sharing my knowledge and challenging how we do things, to work towards making positive changes in learning and development.
